2009 MAVERICK SPOTLIGHT

24. August 2009

The OVFF is extraordinarily honored to present Mr. Oliver Stone with our prestigious Maverick Spotlight Award at this year’s sixth annual Other Venice Film Festival. This award is presented to a film producer or director who, through their exemplary filmmaking career, has paid tribute to the unique history and creative spirit of Venice Beach, California. Past recipients of this award have been given to Catherine Hardwicke, Roger Corman, Werner Herzog, Tony Bill and Stacy Peralta.

On Friday, October 16th we will commemorate this honor with a screening of Mr. Stone’s feature film, The Doors. Don’t miss this visually hypnotic and deeply personal journey into the life of legendary rock singer Jim Morrison. Journey from his humble beginnings on the Venice Beach boardwalk to his uncontrollable rise and fall during the social revolution of the 1960s. Stone’s film celebrates Morrison as both an enigmatic pop icon and a self-destructive saint. This is a screening not to be missed. Be sure to get your tickets early, this event will sell out. Tickets go on sale the first week of September.
